What is CBD Isolate?
Before we discuss how to use CBD Isolate, we should explain what it is. CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is a cannabinoid naturally found in hemp, a form of the cannabis plant. Hemp contains over 100 different kinds of cannabinoids and hundreds of other cannabis compounds like terpenes and flavonoids.
CBD works by interacting with the cannabinoid receptors in your endocannabinoid system (ECS). You, along with every human being and mammal on the face of the earth, have an ECS, which regulates critical bodily processes, including sleep, mood, memory, appetite, digestive function, sensitivity, and immune response.
Now, imagine that you could magically separate just the CBD molecules from the rest of the plant. You’d have an ultra-pure product with maximum CBD potency and zero THC to ensure you won’t get intoxicated. Well, guess what? You don’t have to imagine a thing because we made this product a reality. That’s CBD Isolate for you.
We know, Isolate sounds a bit bland on its own, but the absence of other compounds, flavors, scents, or pigments makes this the most versatile CBD product of all.
How to Measure Isolate
Now that we’ve established the basics let’s learn how to use Isolate. First of all, you need to know how to measure your CBD. A little bit of Isolate goes a long way. Many recipes call for what seems like a minuscule amount but trust us, that’s all you need. It’s just that potent.
To measure an exact portion of CBD Isolate, you should use a quality digital scale. The more sensitive it is, the better. If possible, we recommend getting a scale that measures weight to the hundredths or even thousandths of a gram (0.01 g to 0.001 g). It won’t break the bank: you can get yourself a good digital scale for under $12! Follow the directions for use and calibrate it often. You want to be as precise as possible when weighing your Isolate. If your measurement is off by a small amount, it can make a big difference.
Since Isolate is virtually pure, it follows the standard metric measurements for weight. This makes measuring a cinch! There is 1000mg of CBD in 1 gram of pure Isolate. A normal dose for a 140 lbs person is 30mg, so 1 gram of Isolate would provide 33 doses for them. That’s some serious potency! Now, how do we use our CBD Isolate?
Try using our handy CBD dosing chart to find your personal dosing size for our most popular products.
Ingesting CBD Isolate
Ingestion is the easiest and most direct way to take CBD Isolate. Just weigh out your dose, put it in your mouth and swallow it. You can let it mix with some of your saliva or wash it down with water to make swallowing easier. Remember, CBD Isolate has no smell or flavor, so there’s no need to worry about choking down something funky.
How to Use CBD Isolate Sublingually
If you don’t know what sublingual application means, we’re here to clear it up. It’s really quite simple. “Sublingual” means “under the tongue.” Instead of swallowing your dose of Isolate, you put the powder under your tongue for around 90 seconds.
Every person has a pair of salivary glands under their tongue. These glands can absorb CBD into the blood system quicker and more efficiently than the digestive tract. Taking CBD sublingually provides a higher bioavailability rate than ingestion and takes effect in less time.
CBD tinctures are commonly administered sublingually. You can apply the exact same principle to Isolate. Simply weigh out your dose and place it under your tongue.
Add CBD Isolate to a Beverage
If you want to mix things up (literally), try adding CBD Isolate to any of your favorite beverages. The method could not be easier — just weigh out your standard dose, but instead of ingesting it, add it to a drink. Be sure to stir thoroughly to dissolve the Isolate powder throughout your drink.
Any beverage will do. Some popular choices are coffee, teas, smoothies, juices, and even alcoholic beverages. That’s right — all you mixologists out there can add a special flair to your cocktails with CBD Isolate. Since CBD is not intoxicating, you can enjoy it any time of day – in your morning coffee, your lunchtime refresher, or your final nightcap.

Cooking with CBD Isolate
Cooking with CBD Isolate is a more advanced method than the previous two. First, check out these general guidelines you should follow to avoid burning your CBD. Like we said in the last section, you can have CBD any time of day because it’s not intoxicating. So go ahead and add some Isolate to breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert. We can’t wait to hear what you cook up!
Make Your Own CBD Vape Juice
When we said CBD Isolate is versatile, we meant it. Did you know you can make your own CBD vape juice by combining CBD Isolate with a couple of other common vaping ingredients? Many people prefer to vape their CBD because it provides effects quickly (approximately 90 seconds).
Vaping CBD is super convenient, effective, and flavorful. You can pick from thousands of flavors to combine with your Isolate. Use caution when purchasing e-juice flavoring or cutting agents. Only opt for quality, not cheap ingredients. Remember, you’re putting this stuff in your body.
Add Potency to Your CBD Tinctures
Do you have a CBD tincture you want to make stronger? With CBD Isolate, you can do just that! Say you have a 300 mg CBD tincture you wish was twice as strong. You can turn that 300 mg tincture into a 600 mg bottle by adding 300 mg of isolate.
However, don’t just add the Isolate hoping it will automatically combine with the tincture because it won’t. You’ll need to pour the bottle of 300 mg tincture into a small heat-proof glass (one you can cook with). Weigh out 300 mg of Isolate (0.3 g), add it to the tincture, then place the glass in a pot.
Next, fill the pot with water until the level rises about ⅓ to ½ the height of the glass with the CBD tincture in it. Over medium heat, warm the water up to boiling temperature and boil for 10 minutes or until the powder has fully dissolved. Be careful not to let the water bubble over into the glass and in your tincture.
If you did it right, your 300mg tincture is now a 600mg tincture. Now, just pour the mix back into the original container. You can use the dropper to suck up every last drop. Boom, there you go! Your bottle is now double the strength.
How to Use CBD Isolate “Dabs”
You can dab Isolate just like any other form of CBD concentrate. All you need is a dab rig, dabbing tool, and torch (plus some CBD Isolate, of course). If you are new to the world of cannabis, you probably don’t have these tools lying around your house, but you can find them at almost any smoke shop.
A dab rig is essentially a form of water pipe, similar to a bong. However, in place of the “bowl” that you find on a bong, a dab rig has a “nail” made of metal or glass. You use the torch to heat the nail until it’s hotter than December in Los Angeles. Seriously, you want the nail to get red hot (and please be careful). Once it’s hot enough, use a dabbing tool to put a small amount of CBD Isolate on the nail. As you do so, inhale. Heads up – these clouds are thick!
Dabbing is the fastest way to gain the benefits of CBD Isolate. That’s because the CBD absorbs into your bloodstream from your lungs in a matter of milliseconds. When you inhale a dab of Isolate, you can expect to feel its effects almost instantly. Remember, we’re dealing with the purest form of CBD here, so these hits are extremely potent. Start with a small dab and take a little more as needed until you feel the desired effect.
What’s the Difference Between CBD Isolate & Other CBD Concentrates?
Compared to other concentrates, CBD Isolates are much more potent. It also has a vastly different appearance, taste, and smell. Like wax, crumble, budder, and shatter, other concentrates are named for their characteristic textures. They have a distinct cannabis aroma and flavor. Isolate is essentially pure CBD powder with no taste or scent at all. While other concentrates have a yellow, brown, or golden hue, Isolate is snow white.
Isolate has no smell, flavor, or color because it has no terpenes or flavonoids. For the uninitiated, terpenes are chemical compounds that give many plants their scent and taste. Flavonoids give plants their color. These chemicals are just the tip of the iceberg. Hemp contains hundreds of compounds, each with unique effects. These compounds make the difference between Isolate and other concentrates.
Full Spectrum vs. Broad Spectrum vs. Isolate
There are three categories of CBD products: full spectrum, broad spectrum, and isolate. These are important terms to know when shopping for CBD, so let’s break them down quickly.
Full spectrum CBD products contain all of the compounds found in hemp plants, including trace amounts of THC, the compound in marijuana that gets you high. However, hemp does not contain enough THC to have an intoxicating effect.
Broad spectrum CBD products contain all of the compounds found in hemp plants except for THC. This helps people nervous about having any THC in their system due to drug tests at work or just personal preference.
CBD isolate products contain only CBD. All of the other hemp compounds are removed.
So, why does any of this matter? It has to do with something called the “entourage effect.” The entourage effect refers to the combined power of all the cannabis compounds working together. SCBD may be more effective when paired with these other compounds. With CBD Isolate, you won’t get the entourage effect, but you still get the pure power of CBD.
Can You Smoke CBD Isolate?
Absolutely! You can do just about anything with CBD Isolate. Since it is a powder, you can’t pack a bowl or joint with just CBD Isolate – the texture is too fine. To smoke CBD isolate, you need to mix it with hemp flower.
Pack a pipe or bong with ground hemp flower, then sprinkle some CBD Isolate over the top. Alternatively, you can mix the Isolate and ground flower in a joint or blunt. Then, light up and puff away. Smoking CBD Isolate and hemp flower together create a magical combo. All hemp flower is full spectrum, so it delivers the entourage effect you don’t get from Isolate alone. When you add Isolate to flower, you get the entourage effect, supercharged by a dose of pure CBD!
Can I Fly With CBD Isolate On a Plane?
Whether or not you can fly with CBD Isolate depends on where you are going. Hemp-derived CBD is legal in all 50 U.S. states, so as long as you’re flying within the country, you can bring along any CBD products you like. If you are taking an international flight, you will have to research CBD laws in your destination country.
As long as you are flying within a legal territory, you can actually enjoy CBD Isolate during your flight! It’s the perfect CBD product for air travel since it is easy to use and won’t draw any attention to its odor. If you get nervous on airplanes or need sleep for a red-eye flight, try taking some CBD Isolate to relax you throughout your journey.
We should add a little word of caution here. Since CBD was only legalized in 2018, there is still a lot of ignorance surrounding it. Not everybody is up-to-date on what CBD products are out there for consumers. To the uneducated eye, CBD Isolate might be mistaken for some other white powder (you know what we’re talking about). To avoid confusion, keep your CBD Isolate in its original, clearly labeled container. It’s totally legal, so you have nothing to worry about, but it still helps to take precautions.
Why Choose Cannabidiol Isolate Over Other CBD Products?
Isolate’s greatest strength is its versatility. Think of all the ways we enjoy cannabis — smoking, vaping, edibles, drinks, sublingual application, and dabbing — you can do any of these with CBD Isolate! You can take Isolate anywhere at any time, unlike other forms of CBD.
Consider this: would you light up a hemp joint at work and blow that dank aroma where your boss can smell it? Would you hit a dab rig at Thanksgiving dinner? Sure, CBD is legal, but you still might want to keep it subtle. That’s where Isolate comes in!
Without the presence of terpenes, you won’t draw attention to the cannabis flavor or smell. You can sprinkle some into your coffee at work or slip a bit under your tongue before dinner with the family. Let the soothing relaxation help you through your long meeting or a conversation with that uncle. Isolate lets you enjoy CBD as subtly or as openly as you wish.
Furthermore, Isolate is perfect for those who want the benefits of CBD but don’t like the taste or smell of cannabis. Odorless and flavorless, Isolate is easy on the nose and palate.
Is CBD Isolate Better Than CBD Oil?
“Better” is a matter of personal opinion. Comparing CBD Isolate and CBD Oil is like comparing apples to oranges. Besides CBD, these products have very little in common.
CBD oil tinctures are made by combining CBD extract with a carrier oil. At Cheef Botanicals, we make tinctures with hemp seed oil, which is rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and omega fatty acids. CBD oil can be full spectrum or broad spectrum, meaning it delivers other cannabis compounds besides CBD. Isolate only has CBD.
Since CBD oil contains terpenes, it has a mild cannabis aroma. It tastes faintly of cannabis, along with the flavor of the carrier oil. Hemp seed oil has an earthy, grassy taste. Depending on your personal preferences, you may prefer a terpene-rich product, in which case you should try CBD oil. If you want CBD alone with no taste or smell, try Isolate.
You can take CBD oil sublingually or add it to foods and beverages. You can do both of these things with CBD Isolate and a whole lot more as well. If you want to smoke, dab, or make vape juice, CBD Isolate is the product for you.
